With the number of Android 3.0 tablets about to be released on the rise, making one model stick out from the crowd could be difficult. Throw in the fact that the Apple iPad 2 is cheaper than its predecessor and competition in the tablet market is tougher than ever.
Some of these things must have been on the mind of the Dixons group (Dixons, Curries and PC World), as the price of the Android 3.0-powered Motorola Xoom tablet has had its price dropped by £20 to £480 , just a few days before it's launched.
This move means that the 10.1in tablet with 32GB of storage and built-in Wi-Fi now costs the same as the equivalent iPad 2. Whether or not this price drop will be enough remains to be seen, though.
For Android devices, it's certainly going to be a tough market. We think that the Motorola Xoom could well be too expensive, as the similar Asus Eee Pad Transformer is on pre-order for just £380 and will be out later on in this month.
Yesterday, we found out that the 7in AcerIconia A100 tablet will cost just £300 and will be available on April 20th.
Our advice if you're after an Android tablet, then, is to wait for a month or so and find out which of the latest models comes out as the best.
