Lenovo has announced its first 8in Intel-powered Android tablet: the Tab S8. The tablet will be powered by an Intel Atom Z3745 processor and will be paired with 2GB of RAM, giving it plenty of speed to run Android 4.4 KitKat.
The tablet weighs just 295g and will measure 7.8mm thick, which is roughly the same size as a standard pencil. The 8in display will have a 1,920x1,200 resolution, giving it a pixel density of 283 pixels-per-inch. This gives it an edge over other Full HD 8in tablets, as pictures will appear sharper and crisper. The tablet will have 16GB of internal storage as well, and Dolby-enhanced dual front-facing speakers. Battery life currently stands at seven hours, according to Lenovo.
"With Lenovo’s Tab S8 tablet powered by an Intel Atom Processor, consumers have the freedom to experience seamless, powerful performance with great battery life. They can enjoy the content they want on this new Intel-based tablet, such as games or videos,” said Erik Reid, vice president of Intel Mobile and Communications Group and general manager of the Tablet Business Unit.
Interestingly, Lenovo has included an 8-megapixel rear camera with an aperture f2.2 lens. This is unusual for a tablet, let alone one this cheap, so it's possible the Tab S8 will be able to best your smartphone when it comes to taking pictures. Pre-installed apps, like SHAREit, will also be included, allowing you to share photos and files with friends and family members. The front camera, meanwhile, has a 1.6-megapixel camera.
The tablet will also be available in a 4G model, so you can always get online wherever you are. The Tab S8 will be available in ebony, canary yellow, pearl white and midnight blue from September for just £149.
